The Magnetic Door Sensor Wired Reed Switch is a simple and reliable magnetic contact sensor designed to detect whether a door, window, cabinet, drawer, or other movable object is open or closed. It consists of a reed switch and a matching magnet that work together to provide a simple ON/OFF switching signal.

When the magnet is positioned close to the reed switch, the internal contacts change state. When the door or window is opened and the magnet moves away, the contacts return to their original state. This makes the sensor ideal for security systems, alarm circuits, home automation, Arduino projects, IoT applications, and access monitoring systems.

Its wired design allows it to be easily connected to microcontrollers, alarm systems, relay circuits, and other electronic control systems.

Working Principle

The sensor consists of two main parts:

  • Reed Switch: Contains magnetically operated electrical contacts.
  • Magnet: Installed on the moving part of the door, window, or other object.

When the door is closed, the magnet is positioned near the reed switch and causes its internal contacts to change state.

When the door is opened, the magnet moves away from the reed switch, causing the contacts to return to their original state.

A microcontroller or alarm circuit can monitor this change and determine whether the door or window is open or closed.

For example, an Arduino or ESP32 can read the reed switch as a digital input and trigger an alarm, activate a light, send a notification, or record an access event when the door is opened.

Usage Tips

  • Install the magnet and reed switch so they are properly aligned when the door is closed.
  • Keep the magnet sufficiently close to the reed switch for reliable switching.
  • Avoid excessive mechanical movement or vibration around the sensor.
  • Connect the sensor to the appropriate digital input when using it with a microcontroller.
  • Use an appropriate pull-up or pull-down configuration depending on your circuit.
  • Do not exceed the reed switch’s contact voltage and current ratings.
  • Keep the sensor away from strong external magnetic fields that may cause unintended switching.
  • Secure both parts firmly to prevent misalignment during repeated door operation.
