How the 74148 Priority Encoder Works

The 74148 continuously monitors its eight input lines and generates a 3-bit binary output corresponding to the highest-priority active input.

Priority order is:

I7 → Highest Priority
I0 → Lowest Priority

If multiple inputs are active simultaneously, the encoder outputs the binary code of the highest-priority input only.
