The 74139 is a dual 1-of-4 line decoder/demultiplexer IC built on the 74xx TTL family. Each section accepts two binary inputs plus an enable and drives four mutually exclusive, active-LOW outputs, making it ideal for address decoding, chip-select logic, and data routing. With independent enables, the two decoders can operate separately or be cascaded for larger systems. The DIP-16 package is breadboard-friendly for student labs and rapid prototyping.
Key Features:
- Two independent 2-to-4 decoders/demux in one chip
- Active-LOW outputs; TTL/CMOS-compatible inputs
- Individual enable control for each section
- Typical 5V operation; fast TTL switching
- DIP-16 package for easy PCB/breadboard use
Common Applications:
- Memory address decoding & peripheral chip-select
- Data routing / demultiplexing in bused systems
- I/O selection, control logic, and state machines
- Educational digital logic projects and trainers
